Pallet Calculator
Calculate pallet capacity, load weight, shipment volume, and utilization based on dimensions, weights, stacking quantities, and pallet count. Pallet Calculator helps warehouse teams, shippers, freight planners, and logistics professionals optimize palletized shipments.
Highlights
- Calculate cartons per pallet and total shipment quantities.
- Estimate pallet, carton, and total shipment volume.
- Determine product, gross pallet, and total shipment weight.
- Measure footprint, volume, and load capacity utilization.
- Plan loaded pallet height and optimize warehouse space.

How Pallet Calculator Works?
The Pallet Calculator estimates pallet capacity, cargo volume, shipment weight, loaded height, and utilization from the pallet, carton, stacking, and quantity inputs. It treats each pallet as a rectangular base with cartons arranged in equal layers.
The available pallet footprint is calculated from pallet length and width:
The volume of one carton is calculated by multiplying its three dimensions. Carton capacity per pallet is the number of cartons in one layer multiplied by the number of layers:
The calculator then determines the main pallet and shipment results as follows:
| Result | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Total Cartons | Cartons Per Pallet × Pallet Quantity |
| Cargo Volume Per Pallet | Carton Volume × Cartons Per Pallet |
| Total Shipment Volume | Cargo Volume Per Pallet × Pallet Quantity |
| Loaded Pallet Height | Pallet Height + (Carton Height × Layers Per Pallet) |
| Product Weight Per Pallet | Carton Weight × Cartons Per Pallet |
| Gross Pallet Weight | Product Weight Per Pallet + Pallet Tare Weight |
| Total Product Weight | Product Weight Per Pallet × Pallet Quantity |
| Total Shipment Weight | Gross Pallet Weight × Pallet Quantity |
| Footprint Utilization | (Carton Length × Carton Width × Cartons Per Layer ÷ Pallet Footprint) × 100 |
| Volume Utilization | (Cargo Volume Per Pallet ÷ (Pallet Footprint × Loaded Pallet Height)) × 100 |
| Load Capacity Utilization | (Product Weight Per Pallet ÷ Maximum Pallet Load) × 100 |
Dimension calculations should use compatible selected dimension units, and weight calculations should use compatible selected weight units. The calculator reports pallet-level and shipment-level results using the output units selected by the user.
Practical Use Cases
Warehouse teams can estimate how many cartons fit on each pallet, review footprint and volume utilization, and plan storage positions based on loaded pallet height.
Shippers can calculate total cartons, product weight, gross shipment weight, and cargo volume before preparing shipment documentation or arranging collection.
Freight planners can compare palletized shipment volume and weight against available transport capacity, while using loaded height to identify potential stacking or clearance concerns.
Logistics professionals can test different layer counts, pallet quantities, and carton configurations to improve pallet utilization and identify when the product load approaches the maximum pallet capacity.
Inventory and fulfillment teams can forecast the number of cartons and pallets required for an order, along with the total product weight and warehouse space occupied by the shipment.
Accuracy and Limitations
The calculator is mathematically accurate for the rectangular dimensions, carton counts, layer counts, weights, and pallet quantities entered. It assumes cartons are arranged in a regular pattern, all cartons have the same dimensions and weight, every layer contains the entered number of cartons, and cartons do not overhang the pallet. Footprint utilization does not calculate the maximum geometric packing arrangement; it uses the entered cartons-per-layer value. Volume utilization uses the rectangular envelope formed by the pallet footprint and loaded height, so it does not account for gaps, carton deformation, wrapping, uneven stacking, void space, or load restraints. Load capacity utilization compares product weight per pallet with maximum pallet load and does not independently verify pallet condition, load distribution, center of gravity, rack ratings, vehicle limits, or carrier rules.
